Amy’s Wine Pick : Apila 2016 Merlot
Laura’s Food Pick : Steak with Blue Cheese Butter

Steak with blue cheese

This 2016 Merlot is from Curicó, Chile and was fermented in stainless steel and unadulterated by oak producing a merlot to remember! In addition to chocolate, it has subtle notes of cherry and plum and pairs well with your favorite steak or cheese – or BOTH!

The softer tannins in the Apila merlot really enhance the flavors in a lean cut of steak like the sirloin. When topped with this creamy blue cheese butter it’s a meal you won’t soon forget!

Perfect for your next dinner party or date night, you can also marinade the steak and freeze ahead of time for convenience.

This recipe comes in the Backyard BBQ Workshop Kit, so be sure to pick one up if you want to prep and freeze 10-20 meals like this and have them waiting for you in your freezer!

When I set out to make this recipe, we actually ended up with gorgonzola instead of blue cheese (that’s a story you will hear very soon as well, don’t worry!) and I didn’t realize it until it was too late to run to the store. What I learned was that this recipe was equally delicious with gorgonzola, so don’t be afraid to mix it up a little bit with you favorite soft cheese!
